A Few Symptoms Of Depression

By Janet Hoffa

A lot of people are suffering from depression and different swings of mood every now and then, and it is important to learn to make a difference between a serious case and a normal change in your mood. You are most likely not going to notice it yourself if you get depressed but if you do you should talk to your physician.

It is not uncommon for the depression to start showing as sleeping problems. This is because there is usually a problem with brain chemistry involved and since the same hormones which control your mood, control your sleeping patterns, you will find it hard to fall asleep and sleep continuously through the night.

Usually someone who is depressed gets the first symptoms without knowing what is going on in his or hers life. It is normal to start feeling anguished and like the walls are falling on you. If you feel like you can't breathe all the time you might be depressed and in the need for medication and or psychotherapy.

There can be short periods of depression with anyone and in those cases it lasts for less than two weeks. This can be a result of something unexpected happening in your life which makes you feel bad. Such could be a break in a long term relationship or a loss of a loved one.

In the short term vases there is no reason for medication but for people who suffer from depression for a month or longer medication is usually the first treatment. In less severe cases you can try psychotherapy or different treatments which do not include drugs, but since the medication is so advanced, there are usually no side-effects while using them, and the results have been shown to be great.

People today are being depressed more and more often and they don't even know about it. Not until someone close to them mentions that they have been gloomy for a long period of time and have no expressed their emotions or reasons for the gloominess they start to worry about their condition. Depression can be a severe condition and that is why you should always see a doctor if you think that you might have it.
