Using Herbal Remedies for Effectively Treating External Hemorrhoids

By Dean Hawke

External hemorrhoids can be extremely painful at the best of times and if they are handled roughly, they will more often than not begin bleeding. However, external hemorrhoids, unlike internal hemorrhoids, can be treated successfully. In fact, there are numerous herbal home remedies that can be used as an effective treatment. Of course, one can also choose to have surgery but you need to bear in mind that there is no guarantee you'll remain free of hemorrhoids for any length of time afterwards.

Interestingly enough, statistics show that there are millions of people in the United States suffering from hemorrhoids and a further 1 million new cases confirmed each year. Of course, because anyone can end up suffering from this condition, there is essentially no reason whatsoever to be ashamed of it.

Another culprit is the increased production of progesterone by the body. This hormone is the body's support mechanism to help the veins relax. In a frequently relaxed state, the veins swell easily and slow down the intestinal tract. When this happens, constipation occurs. Since the production of progesterone cannot be controlled, pregnant women should focus on preventing constipation by eating more fiber-rich foods and taking more liquids and exercising lightly because taking medication for hemorrhoids during pregnancy may be fatal to them or their babies. Surgery is not a welcome option either.

To ease the swelling, applying icepacks to the affected area will help. Done several times during the day, this should be effective. Your health provider may suggest the use of Witch Haze with the cold compresses. You can have a sitz bath after a cold compress.

Cleaning the area has to be done carefully. See to it that your nails are trimmed short to avoid accidentally scratching the inflamed vein. Never use a dry toilet tissue and use slightly dampened white unscented toilet tissue or baby wipes to clean the area. It is also best to pat dry the area with medicated wipes specifically for hemorrhoids.

Over and above the herbal and medical treatments available, one can also start eating food which contains a lot of fiber. Salt intake should definitely be reduced while caffeine should be avoided altogether. In order to provide yourself with some much needed relief, you may want to consider using a doughnut cushion and whenever cleaning the area, vigorous rubbing and harsh soaps should be avoided

Warm salt baths are also known to be soothing and to reduce inflammation of the veins. The warmth of course also helps to improve circulation and reduce the pain which is caused by swelling. Whenever you have finished cleaning the hanging hemorrhoid, it should be gently pushed back inside the rectum. When you do this you will feel immediate relief and if you do it on a regular basis in conjunction with heating suitable food, you'll more than likely not have too much bother with hemorrhoids.

Visit your health provider for your hemorrhoid treatment instead of deciding the treatment yourself. Your health provider will provide you safer herbal remedies best suited for condition. Your health provider can also give you more helpful tips to cope with hemorrhoids during pregnancy.
