Good Health From Flaxseeds?

By Zigfred Diaz

Recently many people are getting into the trend of using natural alternatives in place of laboratory made medicine. Philippine television and radio are filling the waves with "herbals" as the best alternative food supplement advertising it as potent against all forms of diseases.

Maybe the reason behind all these craziness lies in the failure of traditional western medicine to live up to its expectations in the "art of healing". Also, recent surveys have shown that the younger generations are more prone to the diseases which are normally experiences when one reaches the age of 50 and above.

Now another natural herbal food supplement is gaining more attention. This herbal, called flaxseeds, is claimed to be very beneficial to ones health. Though the name sounds new, its health benefits flaxseeds has long been used around 500 B.C. in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Back then many people worshipped this herb since it was said that it could heal the intestines and skin conditions, and improve energy and the totality of ones health because of its "magical powers."

Commercializing of flaxseeds and its availability to the masses has only been done recently when medicine and drug companies took advantage of the findings done by reputable laboratories. Furthermore, its commercializing has gone into full throttle because of the strong recommendation for its use by health care professionals.

Flaxseeds are composed of 30% fiber and 40% healthy fat. Its high fiber content allows flaxseeds to improve hypoglycemia and diabetes condition. It also decreases the chances of having heart diseases, coronary artery diseases and stroke. Flaxseeds also contain lignans, which help the heart and also contain anti-cancer properties, and Omega 3 fatty acids, which nourishes the brain and give a healthy glow to the skin and hair. Also, when Omega 3 is combined with fiber, it helps in hastening the burning of fat by making person's metabolism to burn at a higher rate.
