I was reading one of those 'Golfing for Women' magazines the other day and started wondering where the women live, who wear the golf apparel modeled in women's golfing magazines? I've never seen women, not even the professionals, who would dress in such expensive and outrageous clothing.

It's so simple to spend tons of money fitting yourself out for the sport of golf. Think about hats, sunglasses, gloves, shirts, shorts, socks, windsheeters and shoes, and it is obvious that the costs add up very quickly, even if you do your shopping at cheap online sales. Then you have to factor in the cost of clubs, balls, bag, cart and fees and you have to play a round of golf really quite frequently to keep the "CPU" (cost per use) down to a tolerable level.

One full-page glossy advertisement showed a beautiful young 'golfing lady' in very tiny hot-pants (as if that's admissible on golfing greens!) that cost nearly $300, a golf shirt at almost $600, a jacket by Ralph Lauren at almost $200 and two-toned Utuser shoes costing $400 plus.

That comes to nearly $1,500! I know that I could never hope to get the CPU on that outfit down to anywhere near a normal level in my golfing lifetime! Don't get me wrong - I love clothes and I really love shoes, but could never afford, nor even want, golf shoes or pants that cost as much as a lot of people's weekly wages.

OK, you need comfortable golfing shoes that don't look like a pair of clogs, but really, you can buy cheaper and still fashionable golf shoes.

I have bought several very stylish golfing outfits, even though none of them are famous brand names. If I were to total up the cost of all of those articles of clothing, it would not add up to the cost of a Tse golf shirt. Personally, I would rather have a few nice outfits than one that is priced way too much.

If I were to wear a $1,500 set of golfing attire to play golf in, I would just be too worried about getting it dirty or perspiring in it to enjoy a proper round of golf.

What are the Causes of Diabetes?

For years, scientists have studied the pancreas, and still, they have yet to discover a solid reason as to why the pancreas stops producing insulin or produces ineffective insulin. However, science has discovered a mutant gene handed down from our ancestors that may be the cause. Other possible causes for Diabetes include:

Potbelly/Over Weight Stress/Anxiety Infections of the Pancreas, Genetics Inactivity Cholesterol/Triglyceride Elevations

It is interesting to note that the risk factors for heart disease and diabetes are both one in the same.

Diabetes is due to insulin that is either insufficient or ineffective leading to increased blood glucose levels. This leads to symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (excessive thirst). Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas. When glucose levels are elevated, insulin changes glucose into energy that the body can use for fuel.

How the body reacts to insufficient insulin:

If the pancreas is producing sufficient insulin but the body isn't using it properly, it is referred to as the body being resistant to the insulin. Another reaction is for the body to produce insufficient insulin which affects the glucose from being changed to energy which the body needs.

Is it curable?

At this time, scientists have not yet found a cure. However, there are several experimental procedures that are displaying high success rates. These procedures include;

Transplant of Pancreas: This procedure is for anyone with uncontrollable Type 1 DM diabetes, but have a functioning kidney. In patients who underwent this procedure, insulin injections were no longer required to keep them alive and the risk factors with diabetes were greatly decreased.

Pancreas and Kidney Transplant: This procedure is strictly for those patients suffering from Type 1 diabetes and are experiencing extreme kidney failure. After the surgery, patients no longer needed insulin injections or kidney dialysis. If the patient did not reject the organ transplants within the first year, their rate of success over the next ten years was highly increased.

Islet Transplants: This procedure is currently in clinical trials and involves replacing the bad Islets Of Langerhans with good islets from a deceased donor. Islets of Langerhans are the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas. The islets are extracted from the donor pancreas and injected into the liver of the receiver. The cells start manufacturing insulin which works to regulate blood sugar levels.

In a study of patients who received islet transplants, five out of thirty-six still remain free of the need for insulin two years after the procedure. Although these procedures are experimental and not yet approved by the FDA, they have all shown positive results.

Experimental surgeries, studies and research will continue with vigor until a cure is found. But, for those living with diabetes, simple lifestyle changes can ensure a long, productive happy life until scientists can discover the cure they know is out there.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a silent killer on the prowl. This deadly condition upsets the blood chemistry so severely that the patient's very life is threatened. Studies have shown that there are three high-risk categories of people who are more vulnerable to diabetic ketoacidosis. The first category includes those who are seriously diabetic (Type 1). The second includes those who are severely dehydrated. The third includes those who have had massive infections by bacteria or viruses. The rest of the population may not be that much at risk, but make no mistake, just about everybody is on this prowler's hit-list. Make sure you don't get your name up on that list!

Diabetic ketoacidosis is an extremely critical metabolic condition. Normal metabolism breaks the food into the basic form of sugar called glucose. The glucose is used as an energy source for the muscles. Unused glucose is converted to fats and stored for future use in the adipose tissue found all over the body. If the body's energy requirements cannot be met by the glucose circulating in the blood, the fats are converted back to glucose, and this reconverted glucose is used to meet the energy demands of the body.

The Use Of Bipolar Medication On Pregnant Women With Bipolar Symptoms.

Colleagues at the Emory University and Harvard Medical School have observed a study of 89 bipolar women. These women were either pregnant or planning to get pregnant, of those studied more than 2/3s of those taking part stopped their drug medications for bipolar disorder during the six months period and 3 months after conception. The one third ( 27) continued on 12 weeks of their medications after they have conceived. From those who stopped their medication therapy, compared with women who did not discontinue taking their stabilizers 3 months after conception , the difference can be clearly seen.

When Women Discontinue

Women who stopped their prescribed drugs doubled their chance of their bipolar coming back of at least one to two episodes of the illness. Of women who stopped their medicated drugs, these women spent nearly 40% of their pregnant time with the bipolar symptoms compared to less than 10%who continued with their bipolar drugs and were able to do their work normally.

Fetus and Pregnancy

Freeman has revealed that by the time a woman knows she is pregnant, the high risk for the baby fetus has already gone. For women to stop their medication even for a short a short time can pose very high risk rather than a protection for the baby in the womb.

Not Treated Bipolar and the Risks

When bipolar symptoms are left untreated relapses often occur with bipolar episodes which can be both dangerous for the mother and the baby fetus. Pregnant women with bipolar can have prenatal care problems, with inadequate nutrition for both her and the fetus. Alcohol and tobacco consumption use can increase, disruption to mother child attachment, and stress within the family. There is also a strong suggestion that children with depressed mothers run into behavioral and emotional difficulty risks.

Mood stabilizers and the Risks

Nearly all mood stabilizers do pose high risks of birth deficiency. According to FDA classification, Lithium and divalproex fall in the pregnancy category D drugs and both can cause abnormalities and cardiovascular defects in the baby.

Final Word

Like some other mental illnesses with serious difficulties, bipolar disorder patients may require continuing with their drug medications even during pregnancy. Women with bipolar do go into high risks when they get pregnant during their reproduction years. At least we have given some light into why you should take bipolar medications when pregnant, for it is a smaller risk to take.

My Struggle with Panic Is Finally over

I can still remember my mother having anxiety attacks whenever I was a young child. That was back during a time whenever nobody discussed the fact that they were having anxiety attacks and it was a hidden family secret in many cases. Times have changed, and people now are very open about the fact that they are dealing with anxiety. As a matter of fact, it is difficult to have a conversation with somebody in which the subject of anxiety does not come up.

Even though I was aware that anxiety attacks typically ran in families, I didn't feel as if I was going to have a problem with it because I lived my life without much worry. The unfortunate thing is, that didn't stop the anxiety attacks from coming and whenever I was in my mid-20s, I had my first attack that really came as a surprise. Although I had always expected that I might have an anxiety attack, I wasn't ready for the symptoms that happened and it ended up putting me in the hospital, thinking that I was having a heart attack.

After the first one started to occur, they began to come in more rapid frequency and the intensity of the anxiety was increasing as well. There were times when ever I found it difficult to even leave the house and I tended to stay indoors out of fear that I might have one of my panic attacks in public. Although it was difficult to admit that I needed to do something about it, that's exactly what I did and I started to look for a way to overcome them.

I did plenty of research on anxiety attacks and one of the things that I found interesting was the fact that many people claim to be able to overcome them using natural cures. Even though I have been dealing with anxiety attacks for a few years up to this point, I had always resisted going to the doctor in order to get a prescription. I watched several family members who really deteriorated as a result of taking these medications and being switched from prescription to prescription.

I started to read everything that I can possibly get my hands on and one of the more interesting ways of coping with anxiety attacks and I found was to simply allow them to happen. I was always fighting my way through the anxiety, as if I was trying to get to the other side of the attack as quickly as possible. As it turns out, this was the worst thing that I could have possibly done.

I stopped fighting the anxiety, and I simply allowed it to go underneath me and I rose on top of it in order to ride it to its completion. This had a twofold effect, one of which was to allow the anxiety to pass by quickly and the other one was that I had far fewer attacks as a result of dealing with it in this way.

The anxiety is not completely gone from my life, and to tell you the truth anxiety really is not a bad thing if you're able to deal with it successfully. I'm always careful to make sure that the coping mechanisms that I use are right at my fingertips. By successfully coping with the anxiety, I have been able to overcome it to a large extent and I no longer have the problems that I used to have with it.

As with anything though, there are some disadvantages to using creatine, one of which is that water will be retained in your muscles. This means that if you want to keep your body hydrated and get water to other organs in your body, you will have to drink more water than usual when you are using a creatine supplement.

Creatine can help you work out longer, harder and more frequently than you can without it, which can help you build muscle faster. It can also greatly reduce muscle soreness after workouts, which not only means you can work out sooner, but you'll also feel better.

There are some issues with using creatine though. You will gain extra weight because of the water in your muscles; this is known as water weight. Loss and Acceptance " Part Two

It is very difficult to deal with the reality of acceptance whilst easy to talk about it. Pain sufferers find it very challenging that they cannot any longer manage an important ability they feel they should perform with ease. People with a chronic pain disability show no outward signs of their restrictions and others treat them as normal, expecting them to be able to do things normally too. Coping with the loss of usual functioning is difficult as can be the attitudes and beliefs of other people towards pain conditions. However, the conflict which exists cannot usefully be continued and sufferers benefit from working on acceptance of the situation.

There are many examples of how we must accept the present situation and the reality of how we are. Making changes to our ways of doing things can be a very useful strategy to move us closer to our desired goals. Often however people get stuck with a particular situation and have no other choices than acceptance or conflict. There are undesirable effects from fighting against the pain and we can release ourselves from the conflict by developing our ability to accept parts of our present state. We can then finally start to apply positive strategies to our problems and increase our chances of a good result.

If the reality of the situation is not recognised then the conflict continues and along with that we are unable to pursue suggested alternatives. No-one will see why they should change the way they do things or accept poorer standards if they don't want to give in to the pain or feel responsible for doing things for others. These feelings can obstruct the way forward towards making suitable alterations and so impede the progress which could be made. By accepting the situation to a degree by saying The present situation is my reality and I have to start from this point change can start.

We all have internal scripts which we have constructed to describe what we want to do and what we feel we are able to. These are typically not conscious but are often quite specific descriptions of what we think is going on. A good script to be able to say would be I am well and fit and able to do all the things I need to and want to in my life. However, a person with low back pain or a disabling pain syndrome would be unable to say this and their internal words might be closer to I am stuck with this pain problem for ever and it's going to stop me doing pretty much everything. This would be quite a resigned interpretation and would have repercussions.

A negative automatic thought can repeatedly go round and round in our minds, and is one of the ways we can become depressed. New scripts can be deliberately written to replace the ones which typically recur naturally and cause negative feelings. We could say My pain condition does limit my activities to a degree but if I realistically manage and plan my life I can do most of the things that I wish to. This is a more realistic approach as situations are rarely entirely negative, allowing us to avail ourselves of the opportunities which might present themselves to try new avenues of changing for the better.

A realistic script is not the same as a positive one, although there may be positive aspects to it, and should definitely not be rose-tinted unless certain disappointment is to be expected once reality intrudes. However, the more positive and practical view enables people to join in in the assessment and management of their pain, being able to take better advantage of any advice and help from a health professional.

We are more likely to choose adaptive solutions to our problems if we have our assessment of our situation close to the objective reality which others see. We can then stop the continually stressful pushing ourselves and ease off the pressure to some extent.
